About The Southwark
Local Access Partnership

What we do, our purpose and our aims.

What is the LAP?

The Southwark LAP via its partnership aims to support social purpose organisations that may need extra support to drive innovative solutions to local problems, create jobs and enhance Southwark’s local economy.

The Southwark LAP aims to tackle the key barriers to starting and growing a social purpose organisation by providing business support opportunities over the next few years.

The collective vision and ambition for the Southwark LAP is to:

  • Build capacity, skills, community, connections and support across our social ecosystem
  • Tackle entrenched social issues in Southwark
  • Widen the diversity of those who own, start up, and are employed by social enterprises and charities in Southwark

Why is it important?

The Southwark Local Access Partnership plays a crucial role in addressing the unique challenges and opportunities in Southwark, a borough that is known for its youthful, diverse, and at times, unequal demographic. Research has shown that Southwark’s population is relatively young, with a significant proportion of individuals from various ethnic, social and cultural backgrounds. This diversity, while a strength, also presents challenges in terms of equitable access to services, opportunities, and resources.

One of the key reasons the Southwark LAP is important is that it helps bridge the gap in opportunities and support for these younger, diverse populations, especially in a borough that has faced disparities in wealth, education, and access to services. Southwark has a notable range of socio-economic inequalities that can impact individuals differently depending on their background, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. Addressing these inequalities is essential for ensuring that everyone, regardless of their demographic characteristics, has an equal opportunity to thrive.
