Our Partners

Meet the team behind this social enterprise partnership,

Local Access is a joint funding programme, established by Access and Better Society Capital that aims to support the development of stronger, more resilient and sustainable social economies in disadvantaged places. A key vision of the partnership is to remove barriers to setting up new social businesses or organisations, particularly for those communities historically underserved in their area.

Access - The Foundation for Social Investment

Access is Foundation that supports programmes and undertakes advocacy work to ensure that charities and social enterprises can access the finance they need to sustain or grow their impact.

The foundation seeks to target those most in need of patient and flexible investment through:

  • Funding enterprise development programmes in England.
  • Sharing knowledge and data and translating it into practical insight that others can use.
  • Mobilising others who share our goal of making capital work for communities.

By supporting charities and social enterprises to develop enterprise models, we help organisations to find a more secure financial footing and build a more sustainable and resilient sector, better placed to meet the evolving needs of communities.

Southwark Council

Southwark Council is the local authority for the London borough of Southwark and is both a funder and the Accountable Body of the Southwark LAP. The council has established the Southwark Pioneers Fund to support the creation and scale-up of commercial and social enterprises in the borough. This funding is being used to provide further funding for the Southwark LAP to support businesses in the social economy.

Southwark 2030 sets out the overarching vision and ambitions for the borough, bringing together diverse perspectives to shape shared priorities for the future of Southwark. The Southwark 2030 ambitions challenge us to create a better Southwark for all.

The Southwark LAP supports Southwark 2030 ambitions to build “a strong and fair economy” and the key objectives of creating more jobs and removing the barriers that disadvantage some people.

School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE)

School for Social Entrepreneurs (SSE)

In 1997, SSE began with a straightforward belief from Lord Michael Young: the best way to learn how to change things is to get on and do it. So he gathered a small group in East London and built a different kind of school. One where lived experience mattered. Where learning was practical. Where you were expected to take action between sessions, not just talk about it.

That approach travelled. From one cohort to many. From local beginnings to a UK-wide and international footprint. Over the years, we’ve backed thousands of people tackling big issues in their communities, and we’ve worked with partners who want to see real outcomes, not just activity.

We’ve also learned how to fund growth in a way that rewards sustainability. In 2017 we launched Match Trading™, linking funding to increases in trading income, so organisations can build stronger foundations as they build their impact.

SSE has changed in scale, but not in spirit. We exist to help people turn conviction into something real, lasting and impactful.
